The GP of Canada was mildly boring during the first half of the race - apart from the start, that is. Pretty impressive how both Renaults sailed past Button and Schumacher, one on the left side and one on the right side.
Then the demanding circuit Gilles Villeneuve started to take its toll: Fisischella was unlucky again, Alonso touched the wall and ruined his suspensions, as did Kartikeyan. Button bumped over the kerbs in the final chicane and tore his front left tire of against the "wall of the champions". The safety car came out, which spelled the end for Montoya
He pitted, came out of the pits and took position in third place behind the safety car. Problem: Montoya clearly overtook Coulthard in his "bid for third place". Moreover: there's a light at the end of the pit lane, which apparently turns red when the safety car convoy passes by - to avoid precisely such situations like the one between Montoya and Coulthard. And Montoya may have crossed the white line on the pit exit as well. All in all two clear and a possible third transgressions. The third would mean a drive-through penalty, but the first two were clear violations of rules designed to guarantee the safety of people who may be on the track to clear it. I fully agree with and support the decision to black-flag Montoya. It was in my opinion the only correct action the FIA could take.
The safety car outing also meant Schumi could close in on Räikönnen "for free", but to no avail: his Ferrari was unable to put on the show it managed in Imola.
