Alan Parsons has released a live DVD, and as an Alan Parsons (Project) fan, I couldn't resist buying it. I hate to say that I have mixed feelings about it. I payed 31 USD including shipping, which seems a lot for a DVD - fortunately that's only about 25 EUR due to the weak Dollar. The bad thing: the packages looks rather unprofessional, just a bunch of pictures, some text in a dull font - and most telling of all: no bar code. That did not look like an extensive production. No booklet either. I put the dvd in my player, and was rather surprised when the concert started playing directly. No menu, no subtitles for the lyrics (not that I need them), no choice of audio track, no nothing. Makes a cheap impression. The mix was sorely lacking in the bass department too: the only spots where the bass was decently audible were the intros to The Raven and Psychobabble. I would have expected a much better production from the Master of Production ...
The good thing: the dvd does manage to catch the feel of an Alan Parsons live concert. I saw him and his band at the Night of the Proms in Antwerp for three songs, and a full concert in Munich. They do rock a fat one, much more than one would expect from the sometimes poppy sound of the records. This rocking feeling is transfered to the dvd.
