  • Email

Some of you may have noticed that the email system of QuestMaster.NET hasn't been working properly for the last couple of months. A whole lot of factors conspired to create the problem and to make it persist for so long. I am glad to announce that I managed to solve it.  The credit for the solution goes to clyx studios, who wrote an excellent blog entry about their solution to the same problem.
  • BumpTop

I picked up something from NewsGator's Latest Buzz this weekend called BumpTop. Apart from the name that is open to all kinds of funny mispronunciations, this thingie seems to be a stroke of genius.  There's a video which is well worth the 100 MB download.

I wish they would make a WPF version of that :-)

  • ACDSee and Flickr

I'm using a trial version of ACDSee Pro, a program that has very good batch image processing capabilities. I'm looking for a way to easily set tags for Flickr using ACDSee.  This entry on the ACDSee forum is invaluable: http://forums.acdsystems.com/index.php?showtopic=89

With Pro you can use the batch set info to copy your ACDSee Db info to the IPTC fields that flickr picks up automatically. What I've done is created a template in the batch set information dialog that maps <ACD Database:Notes> to the IPTC Caption field, <ACD Database:Caption> to the Headline field, and <ACD Database:Keywords> to IPTC keywords. When I want to uplaod [sic] a group of photos to flickr, I select them all hit "Ctrl+M" to bring up the batch set info, the select my "ACD to IPTC for Flickr" template and let it go. Drag and drop them into the uploadr and when they arrive at flickr they'll have titles, descriptions and tags already assigned to them.

Update: you need to deactivate the Show tag and privacy options before uploading checkbox in Flickr Uploadr Settings for this to work.

Update 2: Here's another essential bit of information: http://forums.acdsystems.com/index.php?showtopic=941&hl=resize. The key phrase is "Put 800 in both the verical and horizontal locations and make sure maintain aspect ratio is checked."

  • The first batch of photographs is online!

Hop over to http://www.the-house-of-schnupsis.eu/ for the first batch of photographs. Chances are that you're reading this blog with an RSS reader, so here's the feed for updates when new photographs are uploaded: http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=78838787@N00&format=rss_200.

  • The wedding - one week after

I have now been married for (almost) one week, and only now do I find the time and effort to write something about it.  The fact is that I simply don't know where to start.  I guess I'll start by saying a big Thank You to everybody who made a contribution to this great day.  Seriously people, it wouldn't have been such a magnificent happening without your input.

Tatjana and I did a lot of planning: we started a year before the wedding, and since both Tatjana and I are perfectionists, we wanted everything to be just right. All aspects of the mass and the party and the invitations and whatnot needed to be tuned to each other, right down to such details as using the exact same fonts and colors on the invitations and on the mass booklets.  We received a lot of positive feedback, so I feel that we managed in creating a holistic, all-encompassing experience.

A couple of things stand out for me personally, in the sense that they turned out even better than what I had imagined. Anschi, Moni and a few other people spontaneously put together photos for the guest book. I had thought that this wedding would be a typical "Dirk" event in the sense that whereever I go, I am accompanied by a lot of technology. Two digital video cameras, two digital mirror-reflex photo camera's and a notebook seemed to confirm that. I hadn't counted on Moni and Anschi bringing a third mirror-reflex photo camera, a printer and two more notebooks, though.  we have a couple of cute photo's of the "computer corner" at the wedding. The only thing missing was the domain controller with exchange server ;-)

But the single most mind-blowing highlight for me was the song for the bride: we had asked the choir so sing Enya's May it Be and had given them free reign as how to do it. It was a very simple arrangment, with a synthesizer, one backing vocal (Susi) and Vera singing. It was wonderful, and I had tears in my eyes.  Thank you!

I will soon start to upload photo's once I have permission from the photographers to do so.
